MCA Teacher Assistant Job Description

Status: Part-Time (2 days per week, Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday)

Basic Function: Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct
supervision of the classroom teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing
of classroom activities. Help meet physical and instructional needs of individual
students inside and outside the classroom. Work under general supervision of the
Head of School and immediate direction of the classroom teacher.

The classroom assistant is also expected to support and implement classroom
management strategies that encourage positive behavior and foster a productive
learning environment for all students.

Reports To: Classroom Lead Teacher

We seek the following in qualified candidates:
• High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
• Some experience working with children is required
• CPR certification is required
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate preferred
• Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe that the Bible is
God’s Word and looks to it as the final authority and standard for faith and daily
living.
• An active member of a Spirit-filled church, growing in his/her Christian relationship
with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the faith.
• In whole-hearted agreement with MCA’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, and

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide instruction to students under the direction of the classroom teacher; work
with individual students or small groups.
• Provide one-on-one assistance with academics and assist students in becoming
increasingly independent.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Performs general housekeeping tasks.
• Assist students with meals, toileting, and hand washing.
• Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This
includes drop-off, pick-up, and playground duty.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide assistance to substitute teachers, taking the lead when possible or
necessary.
• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
• Follow school safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom, as well as
help to ensure proper discipline on the school premises and at school events.
• Follow established policies and procedures for interacting with students, parents,
administration, and staff.
• Follow the principles of Matthew 18 in handling conflict with students, parents,
staff, and administration without engaging in gossip or divisive coalition building of
any kind.
• Demonstrates support for the role of parents as educational partners and supports
them in that task.
• Performs classroom administrative duties including but not limited to making
copies, setting up equipment, setting up and assisting with bulletin board design.
• Performs adjunct perfunctory duties as required by the administration and as
defined in the teacher contract.
